PRODUCER

With over 30 years of experience in all aspects of writing, arranging, recording and mixing, Geoff has all the skills to take any song from the first note to the final recorded master. With a special affinity working with vocalists, Geoff is a sympathetic, sensitive producer / arranger who always brings out the best in any artist or song. His compositions draw on many influences from the wide range genres of music that he loves (Jazz, classical, rock, pop, soul, electronic)

Geoff’s home studio equipment includes Mac computers / monitors, Universal Audio Apollo interface with Satellite host, Genelec 8020 and Yamaha MSP3 speakers, Logic and Sibelius software and UAD plugins. His bass equipment includes 2 acoustic basses strung with Pirastro ‘Carlos Henriquez’ gut strings,
a 1964 Fender Jazz bass, a Fender ‘Marcus Miller’ 5 string bass, Kala Ukulele bass, Yamaha Silent bass, Markbass and SWR combo amps.

JACQUI DANKWORTH

LIVE TO LOVE

Daughter of jazz royalty Cleo Lane and John Dankworth Jacqui chose Geoff to producer her 5th album. Geoff co-composed 2 songs with Jacqui, the lilting 7/4 groove ‘Malala’ and a ballad ‘All is Quiet’ and arranged vocal versions of John Dankworth’s ‘Tomorrow’s World’ and Wayne Shorter’s ‘Palladium.
There is also a guest appearance by the Brodsky Quartet on the album which Geoff was thrilled to be able to write for. Geoff mixed the album at home.

GROOVY BABY

1960’s cool lounge music and Henry Mancini was the inspiration for this collection of 16 original compositions recorded for Made Up Music library company. The lineup includes Andy Panayi playing all woodwind instruments and Ralph Salmins - drums and mixed percussion.

JOSH KYLE - POSSIBILITIES

This labour of love project was the product of 18 months collaborating with the young Australian singer. An eclectic mix of jazz and groove it contains vocal versions of such classic jazz repertoire as Miles Davis ‘Joshua’ (Possibilities) and Herbie Hancock’s ‘Actual Proof’ plus 2 catchy originals ‘Roll On’ and ‘Save the World’. Based around the trio of Tom Cawley piano, Ralph Salmins drums and Geoff playing acoustic and electric bass.

THE RHYTHM OF LIFE

The first songwriting collaboration between Geoff and his wife, Australian singer Trudy Kerr. Some catchy compositions with strong character based storylines. Features Chris Allard - guitar, Andy Panayi - saxophone, Martin Shaw - trumpet, Tom Cawley - piano, Matt Home - drums, Geoff - bass, backing vocals and various bits and bobs.

 

GASCOYNE / O’HIGGINS QUARTET - GOT THE REAL NOTE

The first album by Geoff’s current, regular jazz quartet which is co-led by saxophonist Dave O’Higgins. The quartet features Graham Harvey - piano and Sebastiaan de Krom - drums. The group started out as a rehearsal project to try out new compositions that were ‘contrafacts’ (new melodies based on familiar chord sequences).

A compilation of the best recordings made by Australian jazz singer Trudy Kerr from the last 15 years. Arrangements and production by Geoff.
Musicians featured include Jan Lundgren piano, Geoff Gascoyne bass,

Steve Brown drums, Ashley Slater trombone.

After the success of the first album more ‘contrafacts’ were composed and volume 2 was release 18 months later. Both albums were recorded in Dave O’Higgins loft home studio and mixed at home. Cover designs were also both by Geoff.

CHRISTMAS COCKTAILS

The first album made in a series for legendary Library Music Company KPM exploring the Jazz of the 1920’s. 15 original tunes penned by Geoff and featuring Peter Horsfall - trumpet, Alan Barnes - clarinet, Martin Hathaway - alto sax, Malcolm Earle Smith - trombone, Marc Easner - sousaphone, Martin Wheatley banjo and Richard Pite - percussion.

 

An album of traditional Christmas melodies again recorded for KPM re-arranged by Geoff for a jazz small band. Features Anthony Kerr - vibraphone, Tom Cawley - piano, Geoff Gascoyne - bass, Sebastiaan de Krom - drums, Dave O’Higgins - saxophones and Adam Goldsmith - guitar. All the songs are out of copyright.
